Surveillance video shows deadly LIRR train crash in Westbury
Surveillance video nearby Universal Taxi shows the moment of impact when two Long Island Rail Road trains traveling in opposite directions smashed into an SUV on the tracks on School Street in Westbury, killing three people in the vehicle.
Police say the crash happened around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday when a reddish Jeep carrying three men went around a downed crossing gate and onto the tracks while trying to flee a minor traffic accident.
The surveillance video shows an eastbound train packed with about 800 passengers leaving the Westbury station at around the same time. A ball of fire erupted as the train smashed in the vehicle. The crash spun the vehicle into an oncoming westbound train. The SUV was sandwiched between the two trains and caught fire. The westbound train, which was carrying about 200 passengers, then plowed into the train station platform, sending chunks of concrete flying.

MTA police identified two of the victims as 36-year-old Miguel "Angel" Jimenez Luna and 28-year-old Saul Martinez Caravantes. Friends say the third man was named Jesus Hernandez.
The manager of Fine Fare Supermarket on Old Country Road says all three were working before their vehicle was obliterated by two Long Island Rail Road trains.
Other surveillance video captured the victims' movements before the crash. Footage shows them pulling into a shopping center in a Jeep, then at a barbershop and finally leaving a restaurant.
Friends say Caravantes and Luna each had several children.
