Filmmaker uses own experiences to help shed light on mental health

A local filmmaker is using his experience with depression to start a conversation about mental health.
Heman Armstrong, 22, explores the topics of suicide, substance abuse and seeking help in his new documentary, "The S Project, Sincerely." The film includes interviews with friends and mental health experts.
Armstrong says he was not comfortable talking about his own suicidal thoughts and surprised his friends and family when he ended up in the hospital in 2016. The project, he says, is the result of his decision to read through his old journals.
