Father, son, gas station attendant killed in crash on Route 23
A father, his teenage son and a gas station attendant were killed when a vehicle crashed into a gas station on Route 23 Tuesday morning.
The crash happened at the Delta Gas Station in Wayne around 8:45 a.m. on the northbound side of the roadway. Witnesses say that a vehicle crashed into the gas station, striking other cars and a gas station attendant.
The crash involved a Honda Pilot, Nissan Rogue and Chevrolet Camaro, according to officials.
"I saw two people in the Camaro not moving and the gas station attendant was just lying next to the pump and he wasn't moving,” a witness told News 12 New Jersey.
The father was identified at Jon Warbeck, a former member of the Carlstadt Fire Department. The Carlstadt Fire Department saying Warbeck served from 1993 to 2000. Warbeck’s son was not identified.
Co-workers identified the attendant as Lovedeep Faatra. His family tells News 12 that he recently moved to the United States from India. He was in his early 20s, according to the family.
The cause of the crash remains unclear. One of the drivers may have been driving impaired, according to published reports. NBC New York reports that the driver that was taken to the hospital survived after being administered Narcan on the scene, but that has not been officially confirmed by law enforcement.
Route 23 was closed for a time in the area but was reopened by Tuesday afternoon.
