A construction accident Wednesday morning in Roslyn Heights severed a worker's legs.

First responders rushed to the construction site near the intersection of Corn Crib and Locust lanes around 8 a.m.

According to police, a construction worker's legs were severed when he was hit by a large steel plate. They would only identify the worker as a 39-year-old man.

News 12 is told that the worker fell into a 10-foot-deep hole after being struck.

Nassau County police officers were able to reach the worker and apply tourniquets to his legs to help stop the bleeding. The man was hospitalized and last listed in stable condition.

Crews were working on a National Grid project that's been going on for a few months.

News 12 did not immediately hear back from National Grid for comment.
