The West Babylon School Board voted Tuesday night to put armed guards in the district's schools.
The superintendent sent a letter to parents Wednesday saying armed guards will be placed in schools beginning in the 2019-2020 school year.
The superintendent says the decision to hire armed guards was made following extensive research. Each of them will have a law enforcement background.
News 12 spoke with parents who support the idea, as well as some who say weapons have no place in schools.
The school board says it will begin drafting policies and procedures, and hiring for the positions.
