On the day before Valentine's Day, Darlyn and Arnold DeVoe of Glen Head renewed their vows – a celebration Arnold was not sure he would live to see.
Darlyn tells News 12 that Arnold was diagnosed with meningioma, a tumor that grows outside the brain but under the skull, in 2011. The two had been married seven years.
Arnold underwent surgery to have the tumor removed and was then in a coma for 10 days, Darlyn says. Several years later, in 2016, Arnold suffered head trauma from falling twice and lost the abilities to walk and talk. He has lived at the Glen Cove Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing since 2016. Darlyn says she visits him every day, bringing a special meal.
The DeVoes joined five other couples to re-tie the knot.
"I want him to know that I'm still committed no matter what," Darlyn says.
