An Oakdale man was arrested in connection with a road rage incident early Tuesday morning on the Southern State Parkway.
Police say it started at an Islip Terrace gas station when a driver pulled out in front of Paul Rizzo Jr.'s SUV. They say the drivers swerved at each other while heading west on the parkway. Near Exit 43, police say Rizzo fired a single shot from a .25 caliber Beretta firearm. The bullet hit near the lower door frame; the driver was unharmed.
Rizzo was later pulled over near Commack Road along the Long Island Expressway. There, according to police, Rizzo gave up the gun and officers found a small amount of marijuana in the car.
Court documents state a subsequent search of Rizzo's Oakdale home found numerous legal guns in the garage, but one handgun was unregistered.
Rizzo was arraigned Wednesday on multiple weapons charges, as well as reckless endangerment.
Rizzo's attorney would not speak on camera after arraignment. But he did say in court that his client had no prior criminal history.
Rizzo was held in lieu of $150,000 bond.
According to AAA, there were over 200 accidents on Long Island in 2017 that can be attributed to aggressive driving or road rage.
