Mixed precipitation makes for sloppy roads, treacherous commutes

DIX HILLS -

Tuesday's mixture of snow, sleet and rain made for treacherous road conditions during the morning and evening commutes.

News 12 took a ride with Suffolk Highway Patrol Sgt. Tom Seifert Tuesday afternoon and quickly came across the crash on the eastbound Long Island Expressway, near the welcome center. Slush had built up between the roadway's lanes, causing drivers to hydroplane during lane changes.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone urged drivers to use caution on the slushy and slick roads.
