LAKE RONKONKOMA -

A Long Island man is accused of letting his chickens freeze to death.

Suffolk SPCA detectives charged Christopher Fleck, of Lake Ronkonkoma, with animal cruelty on Sunday. They say he failed to provide food and water, and allowed four chickens to die in the cold.

Officials say the chickens were living in deplorable conditions.

The remaining chickens were surrendered and taken to an undisclosed sanctuary.

Fleck is due in court in April.
