The Long Island Rail Road saw delays throughout Thursday's morning rush due to broken rails.
Crews were called out to fix rails near the Valley Stream, Huntington, Southampton and Jamaica stations.
The breaks led to delays of up to 20 minutes, stranding riders in the bitter cold. But some were able to find relief in waiting rooms.
The LIRR said all waiting rooms would be open 24 hours through Friday.
