Residents were being advised Sunday afternoon that ponding water on sidewalks and driveways was expected to be a significant concern due to ice accumulation.

Hemlock Hardware store owner Scott Pesavento said that the best way to treat ice is to pretreat it.
Ice melting products can also help break the ice up and prevent black ice.
“Go out there today before it freezes,” he said. “You sprinkle some light ice-melter on it, and that really helps prevent that water from freezing up.”
Residents were also reminded that sweeping the water to prevent it from gathering in a puddle is also effective.
Experts also recommended that residents open cabinets under their sinks to let some warm air get to the pipes.
