Long Islanders are gearing up for this weekend's blast of winter weather.
A quick burst of snow isn't expected to bring much accumulation, but drenching rains through Sunday will be followed by a rapid freeze that could lead to dangerous ice.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a statement urging drivers to stay off the roads unless it's absolutely necessary to go out.
State police are telling anyone who must travel once the storm hits to leave extra time to get to that destination.
The LIRR says it will operate two de-icer trains where they apply an anti-freeze solution to the third rail to reduce ice build-up.

There will also be extra staff on hand to respond to weather-related issues.
Nassau County bus services, NICE says it plans to run a normal schedule throughout the weekend.

They're warning customers that significant delays, detours, and service suspensions are possible if driving becomes dangerous.

Suffolk County Transit is also advising riders to look out for potential service changes.
