Canarsie day care center fears speeding cars could put children at risk

The founder of a Canarsie day care center says she fears the speeding cars on Ralph Avenue may be putting children at risk.
Chaneen Thomas, the owner of Wonder Years Daycare and Learning Center, says cars and trucks go well above the speed limit.
The speed limit on the road is 25 mph, but News 12 captured video of cars going over 40 mph.
The day care is located in the middle of the block.
Neighbors say that the long stretch of road can be compared to a raceway, with cars constantly trying to beat the light.
Thomas says she's tried to take action with others in the neighborhood who say they have begged city officials for speed bumps and a traffic light, but nothing has been done.
They city's Department of Transportation says there was one fatality back in 2013 and five serious injuries between 2012 and 2016 on the Ralph Avenue stretch. It tells News 12 it will look into how safety on the road could be improved.
