A homeowner in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens says a vacant property next door has gone from an eyesore to a threatening situation.
Clara Dyer says she lives next to what has become a junk yard. A random barbecue, tree debris and litter are just some of the things that are outside the home.
"I'm uncomfortable with the house next door to me," says Dyer. "Somebody can come and put something in there and it could catch fire. I don't know."
Dyer worries that the vacant house is a fire hazard. She says the vacant home has also caused damage to her residence. Dyer says she and her daughter have had to pay for repairs out of their pocket.
The house has been vacant for close to nine years. According to the Department of Buildings, the owner is Winthrop Apartments LLC. The owner was issued a permit to expand the current two-story dwelling into a four-story residence this past June. However, in November the general contractor withdrew from the job sparking a stop work order on the property.
Developers for the building say the garbage will be removed Friday.
