WEST HEMPSTEAD -

A West Hempstead teenager is back with several medals after competing in the US Open Table Tennis Championships in Florida.

Estee Ackerman walked away with two gold medals and a bronze medal at the Orlando ping pong tournament.

Ackerman is an Orthodox Jewish teen, and she competed during a fast day, meaning she couldn't eat or drink anything.

The 17-year-old won the women's hard bat singles event, which officially makes her the best female hard bat player in the United States.

She says she is extremely grateful to see where her hard work has gotten her.

"It makes me feel great because I truly feel in life if someone dedicates and has a passion and follows through with it that anything can happen and I'm really, really happy to see that had paid off," Ackerman said.

Ackerman is now training four days a week for two to three hours a day in preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic trials.
