A man convicted of killing an 11-year-old Massapequa girl could be released from prison on parole.

In 1984, Angela Wong was living on Camp Road in Massapequa. Manuel Pacheco was 15 years old and lived nearby. Their parents were friends. Wong was found slain in a shallow creek behind her home.

Pacheco is once again eligible for parole in January. He has served 14 years of a nine-year to life sentence.

Pacheco was suspected of the crime when it happened but wasn't arrested until 2002. He was convicted after three people testified Pacheco confessed the murder to them. Now supporters of the Wong family have started an online petition demanding that the New York State Parole Board keep Pacheco locked up.

There's also a Change.org petition from Pacheco's family, who says he is innocent. Pacheco's attorney at the time says the witnesses who helped convict Pacheco weren't credible.

Every Nassau County district attorney, from Denis Dillon to Madeline Singas, has written letters fighting to keep Pacheco behind bars, citing charges in other states where Pacheco was accused of forcible rape and lewd acts on a child.

The girl's father, Angelo Wong, says he fears for other children if Pacheco gets out.

"He is a psychopath," he says. "He's a danger to society."

Now living in Florida, Angelo Wong says he often thinks of the milestones that weren't.

"For 10 years I never attended a wedding of any of my friends because it was just too heartbreaking," he says.

In the California case, Pacheco did plead guilty to forcible rape and spousal battery. He was sentenced to 18 years to be served in any prison.

Pacheco's Long Island case goes before the parole board in mid-January.
