News 12 Long Island photojournalist Tom Franz checks out the famous gingerbread houses at Riesterer's Bakery in West Hempstead.

Having been in business since 1931, Riesterer's is Long Island's oldest family bakery.

Gingerbread is the biggest item of the year for the bakery. This year, it produced more than 20,000 gingerbread houses.

It has been making the gingerbread houses for at least 25 years, and it has only grown in popularity.
