Suspected drunk driver in deadly crash faces 30 upgraded charges

A Greenport man accused of driving drunk and causing a fatal head-on collision on the East End is facing 30 upgraded charges.
Glenn Zaleski, 36, faces charges that include aggravated vehicular homicide in connection with the July crash. Police say Zaleski admitted to drinking as many as eight beers at a family party that day.
Police say Zaleski drove his pickup truck on Route 48 in Greenport, crossed the double yellow line and slammed into a minivan. The van driver, 51-year-old You Feng Yang, of Queens, was killed. Six of her passengers were injured.
In court Wednesday, prosecutors said Zaleski tried sleeping in his Dodge pickup before getting behind the wheel. Officials say his blood-alcohol content was 0.23 at the time of the crash -- nearly three times the legal limit.
The suspect's family would not speak to News 12 at the courthouse, but the defense attorney says his client is remorseful, calling it a "tragic accident."
If convicted on the top charge, Zaleski could face up to 25 years in prison. He's being held on $200,000 bond and is due back in court next month.
