A multivehicle crash Monday afternoon sent three people to the hospital and shut down a portion of westbound Sunrise Highway and its service road.
Suffolk police say a cesspool truck traveling westbound crashed into a car in front of it, causing a chain reaction that involved a total of five vehicles. They say one vehicle struck a utility pole.
It happened around 2:20 p.m. near the junction with Route 109.
Police say three people were taken to a West Islip hospital with injuries that did not appear life-threatening. They also say no cesspool contaminants spilled onto the roadway.
