Families of veterans and active service members were treated to a toy giveaway at the Bronx Zoo.
Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.'s Veteran's Advisory Council partnered with the Bronx Zoo and Roadway Moving to give back to those who sacrificed their lives for our country for the ninth year.
Organizers say they were able to hand out close to 1,000 new, unwrapped toys this year thanks to donations from local stores.
Members of the armed forces were grateful to be able to take something back for their families.
"I think this is the most wonderful event I've ever been a part of in the military and out," said 1st Lt. Dennis Vanella.
Organizers say donated toys will continue to be accepted at the Wildlife Conservation Society's Wildlife Parks in New York City through Dec. 31.
