Gas station manager fights back when employees attacked

The manager of a gas station said that he wasn’t going to let his employees be attacked by robbers – and he decided to do something about it.
Ozzie Shahzad is the manager of the Exxon gas station on Passaic Avenue in Kearny. He say that the gas station was robbed Tuesday around 11 p.m. He says that two gunmen got away with $1,000 in cash.
Surveillance video shows the first gunman walk into the gas station wearing a sweatshirt and mask. He is seen pointing a gun at an employee, and then striking the employee in the head with the gun.
Shahzad says that he was in the back and saw what was happening on camera and ran up front. That is when a second gunman runs up at Shahzad.
Shahzad, who says he is trained in martial arts, grabbed the robber’s arm, and was able to point the gun at the robber.
“I had him…then he pushed me back,” Shahzad said. “As I was on the flying trying to get up, he pistol whipped me that time.”
Shahzad was led up front, and the two thieves stole about $1,000 before running outside in the direction of Kearny Journal Apartments.
Shahzad says that he believes that the robbers were the same ones who robbed the Conoco gas station across the street two weeks ago. He says that he spoke about the ordeal in the hopes that they are caught.
"Very frightening, very horrible experience, Shazad says. “I hope no one goes through that."
Anyone who may have any information about the crimes is asked to contact Kearny Police Department at 201-998-1313.
