Six police officers were sworn in Tuesday afternoon in Hoboken.
The ceremony took place at City Hall after six months of training at the police academy.
Chief Ken Ferrante says the new officers will bring a new set of skills to the force.
"They're coming into something very different than we had 10 to 20 years ago with legalization of marijuana, immigration, use of force issues, counterterrorism issues," Ferrante said.
The department also honored Officer Orlando Moctezuma, who retired after 30 years with the force.
The new officers will officially graduate Wednesday night.
