Brooklyn group brings Christmas magic to homeless families
A Brooklyn volunteer group is making sure not to forget anyone this holiday season with its annual Christmas party for homeless families in Bed-Stuy.
The Don’t Forget Me group hosted the event to spread holiday cheer and Christmas magic to the city’s neediest families – with a visit from Santa Claus, sweet treats, presents and pampering.
“My son gets to be around a bunch of kids and experience Christmas [because of this event],” says one attendee. “Because I'm in a shelter, so it's kind of hard to have a tree and presents.”
One of the volunteers shared with News 12 that she felt encouraged to be a part of the event and give back to the community after experiencing a short stay in a women’s shelter during her pregnancy.
This year marks the event’s third anniversary, and organizers say they hope to keep it going next year.
