A group of women bonded by their marriages to a member of law enforcement are breaking their silence in a new book that compiles four personal stories about love, courage, hope and legacy.
“People need to see what goes on behind that blue line,” says author Rachel Dolcine. “So, I wanted to come together with these ladies to give hope and encouragement and create a support system.”
“Love behind the Blue Line” shares the personal stories of Dolcine, Cindy Roopchand, Charlyn Nater and Charlia Moulton-Campbell, each of whom is married to a member of law enforcement.
The women say that they want their readers to understand that although it may not be easy for them to share their stories, it is important to do so to create a community for those experiencing similar obstacles.
“As a wife of a police officer, we spend a lot of time alone because they're out there all the time,” says Roopchand, the wife of an NYPD officer. “They have double shifts, and if they have an arrest they aren't coming home in time – and [prior to the book,] I feel like was suffering in silence.”
The group of women celebrated the launch of their book with a meet and greet Saturday at Bagels and Cream Cafe and Deli in Pelham Gardens, where they were surrounded by guests who identify with the message and are ready to join a community bonded by their marriage to a man in uniform.
