A Coram mother is pleading for help after someone stole her car with her disabled son's custom wheelchair inside.
In November, Drayton obtained a brand-new, custom wheelchair for her 28-year-old son Todd, who has Down syndrome and epilepsy. He is on a feeding tube and needs oxygen.
On Nov. 8, Drayton was preparing to pick up Todd from the hospital when her car containing the wheelchair was stolen. She put the wheelchair inside the car, started it up and went back inside her house to get medical supplies. When she returned, the car was being driven away by someone.
"They don't know what they took from me," Drayton says of the thief. "They took my life."
Drayton says the wheelchair kept Todd comfortable and safe and allowed her to bring him to programs and doctor's appointments. She says Todd's loaner wheelchair makes life much more difficult.
Suffolk police say they're investigating the theft.
Two GoFundMe pages have been set up in Todd's name. Go HERE or HERE to donate.
