Orchard residents: Glen Cove rezoning might force us to move
Residents of Glen Cove's Orchard neighborhood say they're concerned that rezoning of the area could price them out of their homes.
They say the neighborhood is affordable and has a lot of history. They're afraid that rezoning Orchard, along with surrounding business areas and the Sea Cliff Avenue corridor, will force them to move.
Residents say their limited income makes it hard for them to find another place to live. Civic leader Nelson Melgar says any plan has to include the people who are already there.
The mayor says zoning changes does not mean that bulldozers will be coming in and tearing down homes. Instead, he says, rezoning will allow the neighborhood to grow.
Glen Cove will have an open house at City Hall Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to allow the public to get more information and ask questions.
