Hundreds of Uniondale students could suddenly be without a place to learn as soon as Friday due to their school's financial struggles.

More than 200 students at Pat-Kam Elementary School in Uniondale would have to move schools in the middle of a semester if the school closes as scheduled.

Parents received a letter from school founder and principal Ron Clahar, saying shrinking enrollment and thousands of dollars in unpaid tuition led to the decision to close.

"I want to cry but the tears won't come," says Clahar. "This is my life. Everything is poured into this school." 

Many of the school's students come from struggling public school districts. Parents say Pat-Kam offered a chance to learn more.

Parents say they are holding out hope that a miracle of some sort will keep the school open.

"I'm still hopeful that someone will step up to the plate, make a contribution, come in, be a sponsor, be a donor (and) help out the children in this community because the children are who need it," says PatKam parent Theudia Chambers.

Parents have started a GoFundMe page in hopes of keeping the school operating.
