Six suspected members of the MS-13 gang have been indicted by a grand jury in connection with a brutal August 2017 slaying, court documents show.
The body of 21-year-old Carlos Rivas-Majano, of Uniondale, was
found this past summer fatally stabbed and slashed in a sump near Kellenberg Memorial High School in East Meadow.
News 12 previously reported that some suspected MS-13 members were arrested in the case.
Five of the suspects were arraigned on murder charges Tuesday in Mineola.
Authorities said the suspects, who are all alleged MS-13 members,
lured the victim to the woods where he was killed. Sources say Rivas-Majano was an
informant, or at least believed to be one.
Among the six defendants indicted in Rivas-Majano's death is 20-year-old Nerlin Chacon-Ruano, who was arrested in the 2017 shooting death of a fellow Uniondale High School student, 18-year-old Miguel Hernandez.
Chacon-Ruano and a number of the other defendants were held without bail at their arraignments. The sixth defendant's name remains "sealed,” and it's unknown if that person is in custody.
