Northwell Health on Wednesday unveiled its new center for cancer, pregnancy and reproductive health.

The facility is sort of a one-stop-shop for pregnant cancer patients.

Michelle Cohen, a 32-year-old from East Norwich, says the excitement she and her husband Josh felt after finding out they were pregnant was soon overshadowed by a diagnosis of ovarian cancer at 26 weeks.

Cohen underwent two rounds of chemotherapy and surgery while pregnant with her now 7-month-old son Franklin. She is now in remission.

Dr. Richard Barakat says Northwell Health treats anywhere from 40 to 50 pregnant cancer patients a year.

Doctors say their ultimate goal is to create a national registry so they can follow children whose mothers were treated for cancer during pregnancy.
