Posted: Updated:
HUNTINGTON -

A predator sexually assaulted a 16-year-old near Main Street in Huntington, police say.

The say the attack happened around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, when the teen and her friend, both from Huntington, were walking near the Huntington Library. Investigators say the friend ran for help.

Police say the victim did not know her attacker and that the assault happened out in the open. No one saw the incident, according to investigators, but someone driving by called 911 shortly after the attack.

Authorities describe the suspect as a Hispanic man, between 20 and 25 years old, with acne and a scar on his forehead. He had short hair on the sides, but it was longer on top.

Police say the victim has been released from the hospital. They say they're increasing patrols in the area and are looking through surveillance video from nearby businesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
