Former Gov. Chris Christie is reportedly under consideration to replace Jeff Sessions as attorney general.

CNN reports that Christie was in Washington Thursday for a previously scheduled law enforcement roundtable on prison reform, and then met privately with President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner to further discuss prison reform issues.

Christie and Trump ran against each other in the 2016 election. Following his win, the president tapped Christie to run his transition team.

CNN reports that Christie is not believed to have met with the president Thursday.

Christie was previously New Jersey’s U.S. attorney before becoming governor.

CNN reports that Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is also under consideration.

The president asked for Sessions’ resignation earlier this week following the midterm elections.

Matt Whitaker has taken over as acting-attorney general.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway is denying that President Trump has instructed Whitaker to limit the investigation into possible Russian collusion into the 2016 presidential election.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein previously oversaw the probe. Conway says that Rosenstein was at the White House Thursday and Friday.
