Longtime incumbent U.S. Rep. Peter King has declared victory against Democratic challenger Liuba Grechen Shirley to keep his 2nd Congressional District seat.
Grechen Shirley, a 37-year-old Amityville mother of two, had called the Seaford Republican complacent and claimed she would be the voice of working families on Long Island.
King, who has served 14 terms, said he stands by his record of service. The 25-year incumbent and former chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee is often interviewed on cable news talk shows because of his national profile.
King said an upswing in employment trends and strikes made against the MS-13 gang are because of his work in Congress.
