A woman who worked as a home health aide is accused of stealing blank checks from an elderly patient in Port Jefferson Station and trying to cash them.
Police say 23-year-old Shaquashia O’Brien was working as a home health aide for Integrity Home Care when she allegedly stole the checks from the male patient's home back in September. They say she tried to cash the checks at a Capital One Bank in Patchogue the following day.
Bank representatives declined the transaction and notified the victim, according to police.
Police say O'Brien, of Shirley, was arrested on Saturday following an investigation. She is being charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of a forged instrument.
O'Brien is due in court in January.
Police are asking anyone who believes they may be a victim of this crime to call the Sixth Precinct Crime Section at 631-854-8626.
