Man accused of stealing packages off porches of Suffolk homes
A Wyandanch man is accused of stealing multiple packages that were left outside homes in South Shore towns in Suffolk.
Police say 33-year-old Nicholas Robinson committed the thefts over a period of more than two months starting in late August. The packages were allegedly stolen from homes in places like Islip, East Islip, Bayport and Bay Shore.
The most recent theft happened just two days ago, police say.
Robinson was taken into custody Saturday when an officer spotted a car that matched the description of the one they were looking for.
Robinson was held overnight at the Suffolk Police Department's 3rd Precinct in Bay Shore. He had a message for News 12 cameras as he was being led out of the police station Sunday morning.
"Merry Christmas," he said.
Robinson is being charged with eight counts of petit larceny.
Prosecutors say Robinson has three prior felony convictions. His bond was set at $16,000.
