Child struck by van, seriously injured in Huntington
An 8-year-old child was seriously injured Saturday afternoon after being struck by a van in Huntington.
The incident occurred shortly after 12 p.m. on New York Avenue.
Police say the girl was walking across the roadway when she was struck by a Ford van that was traveling southbound.
The girl, who is from Lloyd Harbor, was transported to Huntington Hospital and thereafter transported to Cohen’s Children’s Hospital in Queens for treatment.
The driver of the van, Pedro Guerrero, of West Babylon, was not injured and stayed at the scene.
New York Avenue was temporarily closed between Woodland and Grandview streets while police investigated the incident.
Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
