Veteran Seaford Rep. Peter King is facing a challenge this Election Day from political newcomer Liuba Grechen Shirley in the race for the 2nd Congressional District.

Grechen Shirley, a 37-year-old mother of two, has been working closely with volunteers at her campaign headquarters. She says she wants to be the voice of working families on Long Island.

"[Rep.] King has consistently voted to hurt working people in this district. He voted to take health care away from 74,000 people in our district alone last year."

The Democratic candidate says she believes constituents in the district are ready for a change. Rep. King, however, disagrees and is standing by his record.

"I run on a record of achievement – fighting for 9/11 health care, fighting for Sandy aid, fighting for gateway projects, making sure we protect veterans and taxpayers."

Political analyst Mike Dawidziak says Grechen Shirley has captured the attention of many throughout this campaign season. He says Rep. King's record as moderate is what he believes will help him keep his seat.

"He's been his own person, and independence flies well in a swing district like the 2nd Congressional District," says Dawidziak.
