Prosecutors: ‘Barking dogs’ sparked screwdriver attack on brother

MINEOLA -

A Bellerose Terrace man attacked and stabbed his brother with a screwdriver Tuesday after an argument over “barking dogs,” prosecutors say.

Prosecutors said in Hempstead court that the incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. inside the siblings’ home on Hudson Avenue.

According to court documents, Brandon Karran’s younger brother objected to Brandon's dog "barking constantly."

During the sibling brawl, prosecutors say Brandon, 23, kicked in his younger brother's bedroom door and choked him. Brandon then allegedly picked up a clear and red screw-driver and stabbed his younger brother in the back of the head and face.

Police say when they responded to the home, they found the 20-year-old victim on the front lawn with multiple lacerations on his head.

Prosecutors in court asked that Brandon Karran be held on $10,000 bail, but the judge set it at $50,000. Karran signed an order of protection to stay away from his brother.
