HEMPSTEAD -

Mayors in the Town of Hempstead are taking on an effort to save taxpayers money.

Village mayors met with the Hempstead receiver of taxes Monday morning.

They discussed ways to merge tax collection services with the town and its 22 villages.

They say the plan could reduce costs and enhance efficiency.

"Budgets are getting tighter, it's getting a little more difficult to do things. And if we can look for more opportunities to work together, I think that's what our residents want," said Floral Park Mayor DominickLongobardi.
