A somber ceremony was held Tuesday to mark six years since the death of a Nassau County police officer.
It was held on the Nassau-Queens border, where Detective Arthur Lopez was fatally shot while trying to arrest a hit-and-run driver on Oct. 23, 2012. The suspect shot him on Jamaica Avenue, over the Cross Island Parkway.
Family, friends and fellow officers dedicated a memorial to Lopez.
Lopez, of Babylon, served the Nassau Police Department for eight years and was assigned to the Emergency Services Unit.
