New research from AAA says when a teen is behind the wheel, everyone is more at risk, especially when other teens are in the car.

According to AAA, when teenagers have their friends with them, the fatality rate for everyone involved increases by over half, including those in the car, other drivers, and bicyclists.

The research says when teens drive with an adult that's 35 or older, the fatality rate decreases by almost 10 percent.

In 2016, teen drivers were involved in 47 fatalities, most of them resulting in the death of someone other than the teen driver.

AAA says it's important to "not only drive with teens, but also to talk to them about the dangers of distraction, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and speeding, all of which increase the risk of a crash."
