October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and a former "Love & Hip Hop: New York" star is making sure survivors get the help they need.
Chrissy Monroe stopped by the News 12 studios to talk about her own experiences with emotional and physical abuse.
She started Survive to Thrive to bring light to others enduring similar situations. Through the group, Monroe connects people who need a way out with resources that can help. That includes dental services, plastic surgeons and counseling.
Monroe is putting together a fundraiser called Hip Hop Against Domestic Violence that will be held Oct. 21.
