The former president of the Hempstead school union was arrested for allegedly using the union's bank account as her own personal piggy bank.
The complaint accuses Annette Greer of stealing $90,000 from the Hempstead Schools Civil Service Association and making unauthorized purchases over a nearly four-year period.
"Basically she stole about or over $90,000 from the union, so from hardworking union members paying their dues, she pocketed that money,” says Nassau DA Madeline Singas.
Greer’s face was shielded by family members after she walked out of her arraignment on a felony grand larceny charge. She had no comment as she left the Hempstead court room.
Greer's attorney Ron Bekoff told the judge his client has multiple sclerosis and walks with a cane. He says he will be looking into the charges.

"She's a lovely lady,” says Bekoff. “I'm surprised at the charges, we're going to investigate ourselves and see what it's about."
The union president tells News 12 that they are deeply troubled by what has occurred and that as soon as they discovered something was wrong, they launched an internal investigation and notified police.
Greer is due back in court on Oct. 27.
