Officials urge Amtrak to let MTA bring train service to East Bronx

A plan to bring Metro-North train service to the East Bronx has been stuck in the study phase for the last four years.
The stall in the plan has prompted a number of Bronx elected officials to send a letter to Amtrak's chairman. The letter says Amtrak is standing in the way and not coming to an agreement with the MTA to get the project moving.
The letter continues to say that the MTA was prepared to bring the contract to its board in May, but did not take the crucial step because they have been unable to come to an agreement with Amtrak.
News 12 is waiting for a response from Amtrak.
The issue is slated to be discussed at Raymond Elementary School on Oct. 27.
The plan would bring train service to Parkchester, Morris Park, Co-op City, Van Nest and Hunts Point.
