A new business in Hunts Point is showing that industry can be good for both the community and environment.

McInnis Cement is aiming to cut down traffic in the neighborhood by making use of the East River.

The company says billions of dollars in Superstorm Sandy repairs are coming to the area soon, creating a need for cement that is being delivered via boat.

Councilman Rafael Salamanca admits he was skeptical at first, but has since become a believer.

"What was most impressive to me is that they were going to eliminate 2 million miles of trucks driving through our communities," says Salamanca.

Each vessel is going to carry in 35,000 tons of cement from Canada. The cement then travels underground at 800 pounds per hour, then into a warehouse.

McInnis not only celebrated its grand opening Wednesday, but also its efforts to restore the Sandy-damaged shoreline be removing a decayed pier and installing a device to help protect the wetlands.

McInnis has also made a point to hire local veterans.
