Some Long Islanders will be heading into dangerous weather yet again this hurricane season as Michael continues to churn off the Gulf Coast.

The National Weather Service says Michael could be the strongest hurricane to make landfall along Florida's panhandle in 13 years.

Long Islander Elizabeth Barker is headed to the American Red Cross National Operations Center in Fairfax, Virginia.

"I'll definitely be connecting with the folks in Florida…I'll be the person that they reach out to if there's something that they can't solve on the ground – if they need more supplies, if they need more people, if they are having trouble with government," she told News 12.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott did not mince words at a news conference Tuesday, saying that the storm poses a “deadly threat.”

FEMA officials say they are expecting lot of debris, power outages and all the other issues that come along with major hurricanes.

They are urging residents in the path of the storm to evacuate.
