A new report reveals how many people have died taking selfies.

According to a study in the Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care, more than 250 people died over a six year period taking death-defying selfies. People have drowned and fallen from high places, all while trying to get the shot.

Psychologist Dr. Nicholas Kardaras says social media has created a craving for validation and likes.

"Every time a picture gets a like, it pumps up our dopamine," Kardaras says. "So the more likes we get, the more compelling our photos. That's what validates us, that's what drives us so it's created a very narcissistic, shallow, validation system. That's the problem and it’s a bad cultural reflection."

According to the study, the average age of those who die taking selfies is about 23 years old. The study says men die at rates three-times higher than women.
