Queens man charged with hate crime after attack on NJ couple

A Queens man is facing hate crime charges after he allegedly attacked a New Jersey couple as they left a gay bar in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.
The NYPD says that Brandon McNamara, 25, turned himself in to police Wednesday morning after his picture was posted in the media.
Authorities says that McNamara went up to the 29- and 34-year-old Hawthorne men, made an anti-gay statement, and then punched the 34-year-old in the face, knocking him unconscious. McNamara then allegedly threw the 29-year-old against a tree, causing him to also lose consciousness.
The 34-year-old was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a fractured shoulder. The other man was treated for a broken finger at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull.
McNamara faces charges of assault as a hate crime, assault and harassment as a hate crime.
