An event was held at the Boy Scouts of America headquarters in Massapequa Wednesday to help launch the family scouting program.
The program includes both boys and girls.
"We are very excited to launch our family scouting program. We launched it this spring with about 30 girls across Nassau County,” says executive director Chris Cosia.
Cosia says that this fall, the group will be welcoming a few hundred more young ladies into the program, and hopefully thousands over the next few years.
Some of the female scouts at the event Wednesday are also members of the Girl Scouts.
"We have a very good relationship with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, and we believe we can work together to provide a great program for boys and girls,” says Cosia.
A drive will be held this fall to accept families that want to be part of the scouting program.
