Rodriguez became nationally known when her 16-year-old daughter Kayla Cuevas and a friend were brutally killed allegedly at the hands of MS-13.

Rodriguez made it her mission to end gang violence.

The vigil, which was attended by family, friends and community members, was all about celebrating Rodriguez's life and calling for transparency in the investigation of her death.

"Justice is the most important thing at this point. What happened here was senseless , never should have taken place. We just want to see what's right be done,” said Liz Cordero, of Brentwood.

No charges have been filed in connection to her death.

Rodriguez was buried Friday in Central Islip next to her daughter, Kayla.
