Volunteer firefighter makes dramatic rescue off Long Beach

A volunteer firefighter ran from his home to rescue a man in the waters off Long Beach.
The Long Beach Fire Department says it was alerted about a body floating in the ocean around 2:40 p.m. It happened just off Tennessee Avenue amid choppy surf.
Volunteer firefighter Justin Fitzmartin ran from his nearby home, pulled the body from the water and started administering CPR. The victim didn't have a pulse at first, but Fitzmartin and other responders were able to resuscitate him.
Fire officials say the victim was hospitalized in critical condition.
There are currently no lifeguards at Long Beach, meaning no one should be in the water.
